Hey there,
Luke believes we are made to experience love and to offer love and to experience this bi-directional relationship via authentic connection. As humans, we are always looking to relate, but often the connection is made, instead, with lies about our value or worth. If we do not connect with other individuals, relating with destructive self-narratives seems like an all-too-easy alternate solution. Luke’s passion is for clients to experience “being known,” for the beauty of relating with another living soul often facilitates the redemption of destructive narratives we unwittingly carry. As we experience connection with another’s presence, we often learn that it is worth fighting for additional authentic bonds, too, for destructive narratives do not bring peace in the same way as does a smile from a good friend. Luke believes therapy is a place of refuge to begin to trust, once again, that smile from a friend and to prioritize future smiles and true connection.
Luke does not take for granted the vulnerability it requires to share deep wounds and is honored to play even a small role in clients’ healing journeys. His hope in the counseling room is that a space does exist for clients to be themselves, carefully cultivated via validation, appreciation, and respect. Luke takes a collaborative approach, using his friendly and open demeanor to find solutions with clients that tap into their natural giftings and strengths.
Every person has unique needs and, as a result, Luke uses a variety of therapeutic interventions including EMDR, Mindfulness, CBT, DBT, ACT, and EFT to address presenting concerns for both individuals and couples. Luke has extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, sexuality/gender concerns, trauma, grief, behavioral addictions, faith/spirituality issues, and relationship concerns.
Luke received his masters degree in mental health counseling from Trinity International University and his undergraduate degree in psychology and business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Luke has worked in private practice, community clinics, and faith-based settings.
